The launch of the Patna Metro marks a major leap forward in modernizing Bihar’s capital, which has long grappled with rising traffic congestion and inadequate transport infrastructure. The newly inaugurated section — part of the Blue Line (Corridor-2) — spans approximately 3.6 kilometers, connecting ISBT to Bhootnath Station. This initial stretch, equipped with world-class facilities and advanced safety features, is the first operational section of the city’s planned metro network.

The Blue Line will eventually extend from Danapur to Khemnichak, covering several key areas, including Patna Junction, Rajendra Nagar, and Mithapur, thereby linking residential, commercial, and educational hubs across the city. The second corridor (Red Line) will run from Patna Junction to New ISBT, creating an integrated metro network once both are fully operational.

Key Highlights of the Patna Metro Launch:

  • 🟦 Public Operations: The metro will open to the public on October 7, 2025, with regular services beginning from the next morning.
  • 💰 Affordable Fares: The fare structure is set between ₹15 and ₹30, depending on distance, ensuring accessibility for all commuters.
  • 🚇 State-of-the-Art Facilities: The stations are designed with automated fare collection, air-conditioned waiting areas, escalators and elevators, digital signboards, and CCTV security systems for passenger safety.
  • 🎨 Cultural Design: The interiors of the metro coaches are inspired by Madhubani art, beautifully blending Bihar’s cultural identity with modern infrastructure.
  • 🌱 Eco-Friendly Transit: The metro will run on fully electric systems, significantly cutting down air pollution and easing road congestion in Patna’s dense urban zones.
  • 💸 Project Cost and Partnership: The total project cost is estimated at ₹13,365 crore, jointly funded by the Government of India, the Government of Bihar, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Speaking at the event, CM Nitish Kumar said, “The Patna Metro is not just a transport project — it’s a symbol of Bihar’s progress and modernization. It will make daily commuting faster, safer, and more comfortable for lakhs of citizens.” He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of DMRC, BUIDCO, and JICA in bringing the project to life despite several delays due to land acquisition and technical challenges.

Once fully operational, the Patna Metro network will cover more than 30 kilometers with 26 stations, seamlessly connecting the city’s busiest areas — from Danapur Cantonment to Khemnichak — reducing travel time and promoting sustainable urban development. Officials estimate that the metro will cater to over 5 lakh passengers daily once both corridors are completed.
